The advantage of the proposed method and developed detection system is that it can be used for on-line power transformer monitoring. With this monitoring and supervision system, the critical location of power transformer can be determined in time. Then the catastrophic failure can be prevented.

This PD localization method and the known PD location can facilitate the maintenance tasks of power transformer. Consequently, maintenance time and cost can be saved.

Perspectives

All power transformers in an electrical network can be monitored on-line via utility intranet. Power transformer in the 115 kV up to 500 kV transmission systems is recommended for using this equipment.
