What is it about?
Not all neighborhoods in a city are served equally by public services. This study uses geospatial technology to create priority action maps that identify which areas of a municipality need the most urgent improvements in public services. By integrating geographic data on service coverage, population density, and socioeconomic conditions, we produce maps that can guide local governments in allocating resources more efficiently and equitably. The approach is practical, scalable, and directly useful for urban planning and public policy.

Why is it important?
Municipal governments often struggle to prioritize investments in public services due to limited resources and incomplete information. This study offers a geospatial methodology that transforms complex spatial data into clear, actionable priority maps, enabling local decision-makers to target interventions where they are most needed. The approach has strong potential for improving public service delivery and reducing inequalities in Brazilian cities.
Perspectives
This project showed me how geography and geospatial technology can be powerful tools for social justice. By making the spatial dimensions of public service inequality visible, we can give local governments a stronger basis for decision-making. I hope the priority maps methodology developed here inspires similar applications in other Brazilian municipalities.
