Why is it important?
This study attempts to explore the potential and substantial influence of smart specialization strategy (S3) and its crucial priorities that empower regional growth, i.e. knowledge spillovers and encourage innovation to attain regional economic development and improve regional competence. In order to rationalize the findings of this study it is necessary to emphasize the importance of predominant driving forces of smart specialization strategy i.e. 4 C’s of smart specialization and 4 C’s of a regional innovation strategy. These are namely, choices and critical mass, competitive advantage, connectivity with the cluster, and collaborative leadership skill that usually identified as a comparative insight of smart specialization strategy.
Perspectives
From the regional governance and dialogues benefit point of view, the innovative regional development strategy will try to cover economically- important regions from different countries nationally and internationally. From the practical point of view, this study provides some valuable advice that may be useful for the regions intending to accept the clustering of firms’ concept and smart specialization strategy approach in order to increase their regional competitiveness through their existing resources. On the other hand, concerning an academic point, it can be assumed that this research will motivate the young generation to go for higher education on a regional development strategy, regional science, keeping in mind how, they can add value. Such as, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) promotes policies for higher Education in Regional and City Development.
