What is it about?

This article intends to contribute to the study of appropriation, circulation and critical updating of ideas and positions against war, taking the Portuguese Colonial War as a central vector and critically dialoguing with other elements of a thematic dossier, including transcription of documents of that period and of unpublished testimonies (by Leonel Cosme, António Melo and José Rosa, for now). This dossier is based on a thematic meeting that since June 2015 has collected testimonies of ordinary citizens whose biographical path was marked by this political and social trauma, which reflect on their appropriation of authors and works that influenced them.

Why is it important?

The organization of this meeting and the resulting reflection that stimulates this critical analysis have three main objectives: to fill a gap in the reflection on the Colonial War and the public memory; create and disseminate new thematic historical sources from oral testimonies; and to deepen a territory of research for post-colonial studies, on historical and group memory, and on printed matter and reading.
