What is it about?
Students of English today listen to many hours of song in English on their own time. Does this actually help them learn the language? If so, what aspects of the language does it help with?

Why is it important?
This is an important piece in the construction of a body of studies on informal online learning of English (OILE). Other studies look at the influence of video, or try to determine what vocabulary and grammar elements are acquired in this way.
Perspectives
All English teachers are aware that our students spend many hours a week listening to English songs. This study allowed us to exploit a lot of data we had previously collected an examine this widespread practice.
