What is it about?

Ricardo Barredo de Valenzuela was a leading figure in the technological development of construction in Spain in the first half of the 20th century. Guided by Eduardo Torroja, he developed a method of post-tensioning concrete structures, patented under his name, which competed on an international level with the most advanced of the time (Freyssinet, CCL,...). Barredo participated in the construction of the most recognized architectural and civil engineering works of the time, collaborating with such prestigious engineers as Eduardo Torroja or Fernández Casado. Miguel Fisac recognized its essential role in the development of roof structures made up of post-tensioned concrete voussoirs, known as “bone-beams”. This article reviews his extensive professional career, highlighting his work and expressing the well-deserved recognition of his legacy.
