What is it about?

Pre-pregnancy adiposity was associated with offspring growth in early childhood. Although pooled analyses showed no demonstrable difference by 3-months, there were contrasting and opposite associations of gestational glycemia with weight and BMI in the first 36-months in offspring of non-obese and obese mothers separately.

Why is it important?

the inverse relationship between maternal glycemia and BMI at 3 years in the offspring of obese mothers is consistent with the concept of evolutionary mismatch : if the developmental choices made at early development do not match the subsequent environment , the person may demonstrate susceptibility to a particular phenotype.
