The work centered on relationship (similarities and differences) existing among and between some species in the genus Vigna (Cowpea). For the purpose of crossing to enhance the ability of cowpea to resist / tolerate insect, pest and diseases

Why is it important?

The major problem of cowpea is insect and pest attack at growing, harvest and storage period. The wild relatives have been known to contain resistance genes and thus there is need to attempt the possibility of transference.
