What is it about?
The need exists for a real time, field deployable sensor technology that will enable farmers (sellers) and producers (buyers) to ensure production of high-quality insect powders. Specifically, we propose to leverage an optical sensor system originally designed for agricultural applications (e.g., soybeans, oats, tomatoes) to perform real-time, low-cost analyses to discriminate insect specie in powders.

Why is it important?
Insect farmers would benefit greatly from a low-cost, portable sensor technology that provides accurate, real-time, in situ information of the insect specie.
Perspectives
Showing readers that infrared technology combined with chemiometrics is a rapid technique for quality control of this new ingredient and will help food authentification.
