What is it about?

We modelled price scenarios for different contract farming followed by small pepper producers in the Northern Region of Costa Rica. The two different contract strategies go from individual contracts to collective contracts in order to deal with one single pepper buyer. We found that collective contracts yield the best scenario for these pepper producers.

Why is it important?

It adds new findings on the advantages of collective actions for smallholders by using data from real existing pepper producers and a pepper procesor in Costa Rica.

Perspectives

It is a good article to be used for getting new insights in further research on contract farming and as teaching material for an Institutional Economics course.
