What is it about?
How can student engagement in the first year of university be encouraged? An original answer is presented here through tutorial sessions partly turned into riddles to be solved. Before the end of the class, a bell rings: the tutorial session shifts into a different atmosphere. The students, initially surprised, discover a riddle to solve. The exercises revisit the tutorial concepts, but in the form of collaborative challenges - opening a padlock, revealing a hidden image - to be solved in small groups in order to validate their answers. The goal? To transform a typically passive moment into a collaborative learning activity, where successful outcomes strengthen students’ sense of competence and, ultimately, their engagement in a discipline with generally high failure rates.
