What is it about?

Using Brucella recombinant outer membrane and periplasmic proteins in ELISA significantly reduced the number of cows positive for brucellosis, but there was not a single protein that would show the total positive results of all proteins used.

Why is it important?

The results showed that cattle from brucellosis free herd vaccinated with B. abortus S19 could develop an antibody response to Brucella outer membrane proteins. It was found that the Brucella Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase provided the most reliable differentiation infected from vaccinated animals.

Perspectives

The development of reliable ELISA tests for the diagnosis of brucellosis requires further comprehensive study of the recombinant proteins in order to design a multiprotein antigen that consists of a combination of several proteins with diagnostic potential.
