What is it about?
Essential tremor (ET) is a progressive neurological phenomenon characterized by involuntary tremors of the hands or arms, head, jaw, and voice. The pathophysiology of ET is not known. One of the brain areas extensively investigated is the cerebellum.

Why is it important?
Substantial morphological changes were described in the Purkinje cells of patients who suffered from essential tremor, in comparison with normal controls, including decreased dendritic length and field density, loss of terminal branches, and decreased density of dendritic spines.
Perspectives
Further analysis of the cerebellar function, in cases of essential tremor, would be important for the proper treatment of the clinical phenomena
