What is it about?

This is the editorial for the number, which contributes several perspectives on the value of multilingualism. The editorial outlines the focus of several articles on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and an article on the language situation in Jersey. It also introduces a number of reports and policy statements on the same theme.

Why is it important?

This number of the journal emphasises the importance of multilingualism in the contemporary world and brings some new insights from Europe and from Vietnam and South Africa.

Perspectives

I strongly believe that multilingualism contributes to creating a better world, where people are able to build relationships, overcome linguistic and cultural barriers and communicate with each other. The journal, which I edit, presents a wide variety of perspectives on this, including the recognition of reasons why people might resist multilingualism, find it challenging or take a limited interpretation of it.
