What is it about?
The management of records and archives in Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs) presents unique challenges for professionals in the field. These challenges stem from the diverse nature and complexity of Intergovernmental Organizations and their records, as well as the increasing volume of digital records being created. This article provides an overview of the IGOs included in the rest of the issue of the journal.

Why is it important?
IGOs function as international bodies that facilitate cooperation and coordination among member states. They play crucial roles in areas such as policy-making, diplomacy, and conflict resolution. With their wide-ranging activities and global reach, IGOs generate a substantial amount of records and information that need to be managed effectively. However, the management of their records pose serious challenges that require careful preparation and appropriate organizational mechanisms. A limited number of studies have been done on the management of their records and on the challenges facing the professionals responsible for those records.

This article serves as an introductory piece for a series of articles written by experts from various IGOs. Each expert offers their unique insights on the challenges they encounter, with the goal of addressing gaps in research and sources.
