What is it about?
The analysis of Roman coin assemblages from archaeological sites in Britain is an important facet of any report. The lack of standardization in those reports was addressed by a study commissioned by English Heritage. This review was unhelpful! This paper examines how coin reports have been prepared, published and analysed, and makes suggestions for the future.

Why is it important?
This paper is important for suggesting ways forward in the analysis and reporting of coin assemblages from the many excavations in Roman Britain. In particular, a nuanced understanding of the benefits of adopting modern computing techniques which would render most of the "problems" identified in the original report irrelevant.
Perspectives
This paper reflects my long-standing interest in the analysis of Roman coinage.
