Why is it important?

We have found specific properties of multiwalled carbon nanotubes making them good candidates for MRI contrast agents. There are still many questions on carbon nanotubes toxicity and specificity, however, their magnetic properties are already better then these of the currently used contrast agents. Moreover, application of carbon nanotube opens new perspective of combining diagnosis with therapy.

Perspectives

Since carbon nanotubes are investigated as drug carriers, endowing them a diagnostic features leads to crunch in medicine - diagnosis, therapy and monitoring of the therapy progress "in one pill" of "in one injection". The vision is still beyond, but it drives for such studies and encourages for dreaming.
