Why is it important?
Understanding the estimation of attendance is important for not only good operations and budgeting, but because it is an ethical issue in regards to significance, sponsorship values, and community support.
Perspectives
As a former festival practitioner I have been concerned about this issue now for about 30 years. I find it unethical when a parade reports attendance in the millions when maximum crowd is considerably less. I also believe that with many sponsorships based on benefit values that include total impressions that overstated attendance is extremely unethical.
