What is it about?

We sought to find out how much of a disparity there was between levels of inclusion of pupils with special educational needs in Europe. The answer that we found is that only in Italy is there near 100% inclusion. We speculate that this is because Italian laws require inclusion in a way that other countries may not.

The technique of analysis used is novel and the results are surprising.

Perspectives

We had no preconceived notion about the levels of inclusion across European countries. However the finding that a legal obligation seem to provide the highest level of inclusion was interesting. It remains to be seen however whether inclusive education generates equal levels of achievement and employability.
