What is it about?
Spectrophotometric quantification of fluid phase endocytosis in the presence of different pharmacological compounds was performed. Lucifer Yellow was used as the fluid-phase marker.

Why is it important?
Forskolin and Isoproterenol - stimulating phagocytosis were used. Cells were treated with these reagents in the absence or presence of IBMX , that is the cAMP phosphodiesterase inhibitor or PKA (cAMP - dependent protein kinase) inhibitor. Experiments were also performed under conditions stimulating phagocytic activity in the presence of both the forskolin and isoproterenol.
Perspectives
These results suggest that Paramecium fluid phase uptake may be regulated through activation of PKA
