What is it about?

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined by abrupt changes in serum creatinine or reduction in urine volume. The definition of AKI has become more sensitive over the years, but this numerical definition has limitations in clinical practice and retrospective research. We highlight challenges with the current definition and ways it could be updated to improve clinical care and research moving forward.
