Why is it important?

The impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is increasingly felt in the Water Sector. A rapid price reduction in internet-enabled hardware and an increasing number of interconnected devices has led to an abundance of data. One such algorithm which utilizes real-time data from some of these physical sensors to estimate critical water-quality parameters such as TP and COD in real-time is presented in this work. This article demonstrates the possibility of using algorithms to estimate additional water quality parameters without installing additional hardware components that incur high capital and maintenance costs. The user-friendly, secure, non-intrusive IIoT architecture also indicates the ease of developing, testing, fine-tuning and calibrating these estimator algorithms in real-time.
