What is it about?
It is known that both an electromagnetic and gravitational fields propagate with the speed of light. We have shown that such fields can be described effectively by a single complex-valued function on space-time, called the pre-potential. This is similar to the description of particles in Quantum Mechanics. The electromagnetic field of a moving charge is derived directly from the pre-potential. The pre-potential is invariant under spin-half representation of the Lorentz group.

Why is it important?
The pre-potential of a fields provides a bridge between relativistic and quantum physics. This description is more compact with respect to the known ones. The known four-potential description of a field is derived from it. Also the inverse square law for electromagnetic force field follow from it. We discovered that a single source field is always self-dual, a property which was previously assumed without justification. This is achieved by deep mathematical analysis. It is surprising that classical fields are invariant under a spin-half representation, which is typical for quantum objects.
