What is it about?

The positive experience of participating in a community big band - as told by three involved academics immersed in the experiences. The spiritual, social and physical effects on participants’ experience are discussed via collaborative autoethnography and the Eudaimonic outcomes are described.

Why is it important?

The experience of grass roots musical participation are highlighted against a background culture of disposable, machine made musical products. The piece contrasts the experience of ‘musicking’ against passive musical consumption.

Perspectives

As one of the authors I feel this in another step in the direction of creating and advocating an inclusive musical culture.
