What is it about?

Research being conducted in areas outside "big science", for example digital humanities, needs to be recognised by their parent institutions as valid outputs. These same institutions have an obligation to support these new areas of research. The paper proposes a framework for assisting them to do this.

Why is it important?

The authors propose a model which goes beyond the traditional focus on infrastructure and discusses other key factors such as organisational policy and the importance of people (staff).

Perspectives

As authors, we hope to challenge the focus on big science and draw attention instead to the need to support the amazing research being done in disciplines within areas such as the humanities.
