What is it about?

The composition of Rumex crispus was evaluated in this study. The study was able to reveal the moisture content, ash, fat, protein, major elements and the level of combustible carbohydrate in every 100 g of the plant sample. The value of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E in the plant was also quantified using standard methods. The essential oil in the root and leaf of the plant was collected, then characterized. The principal compound in the essential oil was identified. The study was able to provide information on the plant content value, which is valuable for the nutritional and pharmacological evaluation of the plant.

Why is it important?

Our finding is highly relevant in the pharmacological and nutritional evaluation of Rumex crispus. This might help in dose prescription of the medicinal plant, which is used for the treatment of intestinal worms and other diseases by the local herbalist.

Perspectives

I hope the information in this article can be conveyed to the local medical practitioners that use R. crispus for treatment of their patients. It will guide on dose prescription and reduces acute or chronic toxicity of the plant.
