In this review, we explore evidence on the association between infant gut microbiota and obesity risk in early life. Both animal and human studies are considered.

Why is it important?

Despite the breadth of evidence reporting on microbiota-related obesity and dietary interventions, we identified limitations to these findings. We propose methodological approaches to strengthen research that is targeted to understanding and preventing childhood obesity.
