What is it about?

The study examines the circulating vitamin D level in Malaysian men and factors influencing it. We found that a significant proportion of Malaysian men suffer from vitamin D insufficiency. Younger age, higher BMI, ethnicity (Malay) and lower physical activities were associated with lower vitamin D level in Malaysian men.

Why is it important?

Vitamin D is associated with bone health and other medical condition. Since it can be generated by sunlight, there is a false assumption that tropical populations seldom suffer from vitamin D insufficiency. Our study proves otherwise and highlights the need to address this problem to prevent osteoporosis during old age.
