What is it about?
Piezoelectric actuation is the leading strategy for microrobots, where motors and hydraulics fail. This review summarizes recent advances in piezoelectric materials for microrobotic systems — actuator architectures, material selection, fabrication routes, and integration with sensing and power — and maps the open challenges in force density, efficiency, and manufacturability that the next microrobot generation must solve.

Why is it important?
Microrobotics advances at the pace of its actuators. A field map of piezoelectric options — with honest trade-offs — is what helps the community choose wisely and push the right frontiers.
Perspectives
This review grew out of our own lab's need for such a map; sharing it publicly turned private homework into community resource.
