What is it about?

Effective leadership is a necessary requirement in transformational change. This should be viewed both in terms of risks and opportunities when considering the implementation challenges associated with the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme. This research focuses on the nonprofit disability service providers.

Why is it important?

The Australian nonprofit sector faces many challenges. The implementation of a generational change in the manner in which disability services are provided by nonprofit Disability Service organisations represents significant challenges for this sector. This research, which is based on data from a large number of nonprofit service providers, provides insights into what needs to be considered in light of both opportunities and risks associated with these imlementations.

Perspectives

As an active researcher in nonprofits, as well as being active in supporting people with disabilities from a service provider perspective, I enjoy gaining greater insights and learning from front-line workers about the challenges they have, but also being emotionally rewarded in understanding how these providers cope with the challenges and still remain people-focused. They are true heroes, and this experience reinforces why, as a researcher, I am as engaged as I am.
