In this retrospective study, we identified a iPTH level cut off that separates patients who experience severe postop hypocalcemia from those who don't.

Why is it important?
Using the iPTH cutoff, we can design a clinical protocol which advises more calcium and vitamin D replacement in the immediate post op period for those above the cutoff iPTH value hopefully minimizing the occurrence of severe hypocalcemia while also reducing the calcium administration and blood test frequency in those below the cut off.
