What is it about?

This work is about MS/MS analysis of a chromatographic fraction of a defucosylated human milk oligosaccharide sample. The qualitative data analysis of compelx oligosaccharide mixture containing multiple isobaric precursor ion mixtures has been carried out based on combination of diagnostic ions, molecular weight of precursor ions and known biosynthetic rules.

Why is it important?

Glycomic data analysis is complex, due to the property of oligosaccharides to yield many isobaric fragment ions although their structure can vary significantly. This problem is further potentiated in MALDI analysis of complex glycomic mixtures, containing many isobaric ion mixtures. Here we show usefullness of diagnostic ion approach to analysis of glycomic MS/MS data and to what extent it can be applied for data analysis of complex glycomic samples.
