This study identifies neighbourhood crime as a community stressor that impacts the development of childhood asthma. We observed a higher reported prevalence of childhood asthma in neighbourhoods with a high crime profile.

Our findings suggest that susceptibility to childhood asthma may be influenced by psychological stressors within the community, such as reoccurring neighbourhood crime, and warrants further investigation.
