What is it about?
The authors here have experimented how to apply the algorithms used until now for medical diagnostics to the automatic recognition of the instantaneous shoreline from very high resolution satellite images.

Why is it important?
It is the first time that these algorithms are used for this specific field of study. The experimentation has shown more accurate results than the already known algorithms, greater reliability and speed. The automatic identification of the instantaneous shoreline is of great help for the studies of coastal erosion dynamics.
