What is it about?

This study quantified the influence of the definition of urban area on biodiversity assessment. Different definitions can lead to significantly different assessment results even for a same city.

Why is it important?

Urban biodiversity is a hot topic but how do we study it can affect our efforts to preserve biodiversity in urban environments as well as produce generalization on its driving mechanism. Unfortunately, the term "urban area" does not have a fixed definition. To compare results from studies that using different definitions of urban area bears the risk of making false conclusions.

Perspectives

It is an inconvenient truth to admit that different urban biodiversity studies may not be readily comparable due to the variation of definition of "urban area".
