What is it about?
This article presents the results of a complete experimental measurement campaign aimed at investigating the narrowband power line channel in the frequency range from 9 to 500 kHz. The characteristics of the noise are analyzed in time-frequency representation in five different sites (i.e., rural, urban…) located in France

Why is it important?
This manuscript proposes the following two main contributions: 1. Analysis of the noise characteristics in time-frequency representation, the transfer functions measured in five different sites (i.e., urban, rural, sub rural, urban dense 1, and urban dense 2) in France. This activity is conducted in partnership with Enedis. The analysis of the noise profiles is of utmost importance to develop robust techniques to improve the communication between the smart electricity meter and the data concentrator, and the data rate, latency, reliability and security 2. Estimation of the channel capacity in various sites. This study has a major interest, particularly to support new smart grid applications and services
