What is it about?
This study optimizes a hybrid renewable energy system designed to supply critical electrical loads in Andean medical centers. Metaheuristic algorithms are used to identify suitable combinations and sizes of energy technologies while considering reliability, cost, and local operating conditions.

Why is it important?
Medical centers require a continuous and reliable electricity supply for essential equipment, refrigeration, lighting, communication, and emergency services. In remote Andean areas, weak or unavailable grid connections can compromise healthcare delivery. Hybrid renewable systems can improve energy security while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Perspectives
Future research could incorporate real-time energy management, uncertainty in demand and renewable resources, battery degradation, climate variability, and validation in operating medical facilities. The model could also be adapted to schools, emergency shelters, and other critical facilities in isolated regions.
