What is it about?
In this study we copared the in vitro anti-inflammatory effect of a standardized euro-asiatic poplar propolis extract with that of a well-known anti-inflammatory agents (i.e. flurbiprofen), commonly used to treat sore throath.

Why is it important?
This work for the first time compared the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral effect of a standardized propolis extract, using well known drugs as positive control
Perspectives
Here we demonstrated that the pharmacological activity by which propolis is effective in treating sore throath is mainly due to the anti-inflammatory properties, which come at lower concentrations than that required for the antibacterial and antiviral activities.
