What is it about?
We studied 297 newly diagnosed patients with pulmonary tuberculosis to identify factors associated with clearance of acid-fast bacilli after two months of treatment. A higher bacterial level at diagnosis was the strongest predictor of early clearance. All patients completed six months of treatment successfully and remained disease-free.

Why is it important?
A reliable early marker could help shorten treatment for selected patients and reduce toxicity. Our findings suggest that two-month sputum clearance and routine demographic, nutritional or blood measurements are not sufficient on their own for treatment stratification.
Perspectives
From my perspective, this work matters because A reliable early marker could help shorten treatment for selected patients and reduce toxicity. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
