What is it about?
Open Access has been supported at the University of Kent from an early stage and the work was accommodated within the existing library staff structure. The pace of change, funder requirements, and a new university plan meant that this model was no longer meeting the needs of researchers. This article details the new structure, including the research support team, a matrix working system and the Office for Scholarly Communication. We also reflect on the benefits and challenges it brings.

Why is it important?
Open Accesss, and increasingly Open Scholarship are crucial areas of development in Universities and academic libraries have a key role to play in supporting researchers. This highlights the changes made at Kent to move to a model of sustainable support.
Perspectives
This article was a chance for us to reflect on the demands that open accesss have placed on the library at Kent and changes that we have made in embedding support for open access in a sustainable and long term way.

This was a great opportunity to stand back from the day to day a little and to consider how much had changed in the library world and why. It was interesting to reflect on practices and staff structures that were more ad hoc versus those that were planned. It would be good to see more articles and information about the staffing approaches being used and tried elsewhere.
