What is it about?
Our Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis study aimed to investigate the effect of voluntary, unilateral, isometric knee extension exercise (UIKEE) on the time-dependent increase in knee extensors' isometric strength. The findings showed that UIKEE can significantly increase isometric strength by up to 46% when compared to the baseline strength of the trained limb. Moreover, the peak strength increase was observed after approximately four weeks of UIKEE training. The study highlights the potential benefits of UIKEE for individuals looking to increase their isometric strength.

Why is it important?
This study is important because it provides valuable information on the effects of unilateral, isometric knee extension exercise (UIKEE) on the time-dependent increase in knee extensors' isometric strength. The study used a systematic review and meta-analysis to analyze data from 20 studies to investigate the effectiveness of UIKEE. The findings show that UIKEE can increase isometric strength by up to 46% compared to the baseline strength of the trained limb. Additionally, the study revealed that the peak strength increase is reached after approximately four weeks of UIKEE training. This information can be beneficial for individuals looking to increase their isometric strength, as well as for clinicians and researchers working in the field of sports and exercise science. Furthermore, the study's methodology and the use of Bayesian longitudinal model-based meta-analysis (BLMBMA) provide a robust and systematic approach to investigating the effects of UIKEE.
