What is it about?

Analyzing gaze behavior may reveal how different personalities receive information idiosyncratically. However, gaze signals of various personalities are usually contaminated by individual difference noise. We proposed an AI technique to generate ideal gaze data in which only gaze features vary across personalities, while the noise, which varies randomly across individuals, is kept constant. This data revealed that openness to experience, the personality related to intellectual curiosity, modulates gazing behavior in different situations, such as working on a computer and talking with others.

Why is it important?

Identifying how people with different personalities acquire information about the external world can shed light on the cognitive characteristics of diverse people. It may reveal why differences in individual characteristics lead to differences in performance on various tasks. These findings will lead to the proposal of user-friendly information presentation techniques that are tailored to the characteristics of each individual.
