What is it about?

As part of a larger study examining taste manipulation and swallowing, we identified that healthy people exhibited differences in swallowing biomechanics and brain activity based on their genetic predisposition toward taste sensitivity.

Why is it important?

These baseline differences in swallowing movements and the underlying brain activity could help explain disparities in the results of some existing swallowing-related studies, and may even be able to help us determine who is at risk for developing swallowing disorders or which treatments might be most effective for which people who have such disorders.
