What is it about?
In this study, we introduce a systematic way of collecting camel DNA samples and associated phenotypic information which we call the “Cdrom Archive.” We outline the process of building this archive and discuss the use of this archive to study the phenotypic traits of Arabian Peninsula camel breeds (e.g. coat, ears, tails).

Why is it important?
Investigating the molecular basis of camel traits has been limited by various factors such as the absence of a comprehensive record of morphological trait variation and the lack of pedigrees of specific traits; to overcome these challenges a systematic method of collecting camel DNA samples and associated phenotypic information is needed--the main aim of this study is to outline how to establish a biobank aimed at overcoming these challenges.
Perspectives
It was a pleasure to take part in this study as it introduces a planned long-term project of establishing a biobank of a relatively understudied livestock animal which may have implications that extend beyond academia.
