What is it about?

Catheter ablation for VT in SHD is known to improve various outcomes including recurrent ICD shocks, ATPs, and VT storm, without decreasing mortality. Adding 3 new randomised studies to this updated meta-analysis confirmed previous findings and also showed that early ablation decreases cardiac hospitalisations. Quality of life was not influenced. Procedure-related adverse events were not increased irrespective of the use of epicardial approach in part of the patients.

Why is it important?

A decrease of cardiovascular hospitalisations after ablation is shown for the first time. Quality of life is studied for the first time as an outcome after VT ablation. The GRADE certainty of evidence was moderate to high for most of the outcomes.

Perspectives

Further studies on quality of life are warranted with rigorous data collection and follow-up. Findings on CV hospitalisations also need further confirmation in future studies.
