What is it about?
This article studies the French translations of James Thomson's popular eighteenth-century poem "The Seasons." It lists and discusses all translations published from 1754 to 1818, and examines how the original English is adapted for its French audience. It also takes into account translators' prefaces and illustrations to chart the reception of Thomson's poem.

Why is it important?
The article is novel and important because it is the first to discuss the French translations within their respective publishing contexts. In this manner, it adds a fundamental dimension to the study of the French reception of Thomson's poem.
Perspectives
The article is an expansion of the fourth chapter of my doctoral dissertation and represents the most original work I have done during my PhD. For me, it is very exciting to share how Thomson's poem was not only popular in Britain, but also enjoyed considerable success in France, in spite of how un-French it is.
