What is it about?
The article relates how a much neglected text, the Poems of Ossian, exerted a wide ranging influence on the perception of the North in European literature and how Nordic poets, and indeed other artists, readily took up many of the features of this poetry, directly or indirectly.

Why is it important?
It represents research that has not been much attended to recently, due to the moral condemnation of the Poems of Ossian for not being "authentic". Whatever their provenance, it is indisputable that they were received, translated, recreated in many forms all over Europe for more than a century, not least in the Nordic countries. This important aspect has been neglected for a long time now.
Perspectives
The publication as a whole is dedicated to the hugely influential Poems of Ossian and provides several new perspectives on their course in literary history.
