What is it about?

We use the example of the #cokedrone to explore more generally the commercialisation of drones in city environments. Firstly unpacking how agencies present the drone for enjoyment rather than for military purposes, we then critically engage with the potential consequences of its perceived banality as a security technology.

Why is it important?

Particularly as drone technologies are easily adaptable to changing environments, often concealing its security and surveillance capabilities, commercial and domestic participants in this trend must be critically aware of the potential consequences underlying the normalisation of drones as part of everyday life in the city. This paper contributes to this discussion.
