Why is it important?

Scottish politics is often dominated by constitutional concerns, but health policy is one of the biggest and most important things the Scottish Government can do. For the rest of the world, Scotland is always an interesting case for its distinctive approaches to issues such as smoking, alcohol, and NHS managment.

Perspectives

Health policy in the UK is a fascinating way to learn about the workings of politics in Scotland and other places while also teaching us lessons about how to compare policies and learn from each other. Its potential lessons are all too often ignored, or buried by a simple desire to compare. We try to be even-handed about the policies, attentive to context, and skeptical about hasty comparison.
