What is it about?
Walter Scott reacted quickly to the Battle of Waterloo by visiting the battlefield and writing in prose and poetry about the battle. He reacted to media interest in the final battle of the Napoleonic wars while at the same time building it.

Why is it important?
Scott was intensely interestested in the Napoleonic wars and in Napoleon himself. The reaction of one of the major writers of the time to these climactic events remins important today.
Perspectives
My interest in Scott is longstanding and I cannot fail to be interested in his reaction to this major event.
